Siera and Justin's French Quarter Engagement Session
The French Quarter in New Orleans feels like its own little world within a city. Some of my favorite times to walk around and practice street photography is just before sunrise. The streets are virtually empty, there’s a reflective sheen coating the streets and sidewalks after the partying a debauchery is washed away from the night before and the way the sunlight makes its way through the neighborhood is pretty incredible.
When Siera and Justin mentioned they wanted to do their engagement session in the French Quarter I knew it would be perfect to get there first thing in the morning. A busy environment can create a really interesting look for your photos but there’s something really great about having a session in a normally busy place that’s now entirely empty. So sunrise it was! I’m so glad they were into the idea because we were treated to a pretty incredible sunrise that morning.
I’m convinced the high humidity acts like a sunrise booster. I’m glad I was able to capture photos like this for Siera and Justin. We spent some time walking around Jackson Square and the St. Louis Cathedral. During peak hours of the day these areas are filled with fortune tellers, artists, musicians and other vendors all competing for your dollar. You almost forget how nice the area is until you see it empty.
After leaving Jackson Square, we made our way to Cafe Du Monde to shoot a few photos. This was another advantage of being in the French Quarter for sunrise. The line at the cafe was nearly non existent. We received a few orders of their world famous beignets and found a nice spot to relax and wrap up the session.
Siera mentioned that she really wanted to smash a beignet into Justin’s face. I’m always down to capture these hilarious moments for my couple. Look at her face, that’s the face of pure joy!
They were such an awesome couple! I’m really excited to shoot their wedding this coming November!
